Formatting PC CD-RW Discs on a Macintosh

An error will occur when inserting a PC-written or formatted CD-RW disk into a Macintosh.

To initialize the CD-RW for use on a Macintosh (which will erase any data currently on the disk):

  1. Launch the Disk Utility program, which is found in the Utilities folder inside of the Application folder.
  2. After the program has started, insert the CD-RW disk.
  3. Highlight the CD icon on the list that appears on the left-hand side of the Disk Utilities window and then click on the "Erase" tab.
  4. When the Erase window appears click on the Erase button in the lower right-hand part of the screen.

After the disk has been erased, eject it and quit the Disk Utility program. Reinsert the disk and the system should recognize it as a blank CD-RW disk.
