Rebuilding Entourage mailboxes
Rebuilding Entourage mailboxes is a relatively simple operation. Before rebuilding, make sure to quit all Microsoft Office applications that are running on your Macintosh.
Start Entourage while holding down the Option key.
A window will appear and ask if you would like to do a Typical Rebuild or an Advanced Rebuild. Choose Typical Rebuild initially because Advanced Rebuild is a much more severe sort of rebuild. Doing an Advanced Rebuild, since it is more thorough, can potentially cause some data to be lost. The Typical Rebuild takes a relatively short time to run, but when it's over, your mailboxes will have been compacted. The Typical Rebuild may also fix errors that may have developed in your mailbox database. If errors still exist after doing a Typical Rebuild initiate another rebuild and select Advanced Rebuild instead of Typical Rebuild.
Note: This solution will also work for Outlook Express. Note also that there are cases where this rebuild might fail. When it fails, however, Entourage and Outlook Express will try to do a Super Rebuild which appears to rebuild everything from scratch. This Super Rebuild will take longer than the ordinary rebuild.
