Are Airport and Airport Extreme Wi-Fi compatible?

Airport and Airport Extreme are compatible with Wi-Fi units manufactured by companies like Linksys, Netgear and others.

Since Airport is based on the 802.11b standard, Airport-equipped Macintoshes should be able to connect to any 802.11b-based wireless network. Airport Extreme is based on 802.11g, which is backwards compatible with 802.11b. An Airport Extreme-equipped Macintosh can connect to any 802.11b or 802.11g wireless network.

Airport Express is a new device developed by Apple to allow users to create simple, on-the-fly networks. It is a 802.11g device with a built in printer-sharing port and a speaker port though which users on the Airport Express LAN can stream audio using iTunes.

Airport, Airport Express, and Airport Extreme are not 802.11a compatible.
