Setting Up the Macintosh Mail Application in Mac OS X for OSU Email (with screen shots)
Configuring Apple Mail for Mac OS X

1. Open the Mail application. Select Preferences from the Mail menu.

2. Click on the "Accounts" icon which is on the tool bar at the top of the Preferences window. Click on the Add Account button to open the new account window. |
| 3. Click on the Account Type pop-up menu and select POP. |

4. In the "Description" field, type a name so that you are able to identify this account. 5. In the "e-mail address" field, type the OSU e-mail address of the form: lastname.#@osu.edu 6. In the "Full Name" field type the name as you want it to appear on outgoing e-mail messages. 7. In the "Incoming Mail Server" field type: pop.service.ohio-state.edu 8. In the "Username" field type the lastname.# (all lowercase letters) 9. Type the password in the "password" field.

| 10. Click on the Outgoing Mail Server pop-up menu and select Add Server... |
11. If connecting to the Internet through the OSU campus network or one of our dial up services, in the "Outgoing Mail Server" field type: smtp.service.ohio-state.edu If connecting through a different Internet Service Provider, that provider's SMTP server must be entered here. No other settings on this window will need to be changed unless specifically called for by the ISP. List of Common ISP SMTP servers. Click on the OK button to close the SMTP Servers window. |
12. Click on OK to exit Accounts window. 13. Close the Preferences window. You are now ready to check OSU e-mail. |
