Clean Install of OS X Jaguar Could Delete User Files

When doing a clean install of Mac OS X over an existing version of Mac OS X, it is possible to do so without erasing the contents of the hard drive. The installer will give you the opportunity to save the previous version of the Mac OS as well as all the users accounts and files. However, the files in the /Users/Shared directory apparently are not considered to be part of any user's directory and are moved in with the previous System folder.

This can be a problem for some Virtual PC users who have had to move their Virtual PC Lists folders over to the /Users/Shared directory in order to fix a problem with Virtual PC. These files can be copied back to the /Users/Shared directory after doing the clean installation.
