Microsoft and Java Issues
On February 3, 2003, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals granted a stay pending appeal of a preliminary injunction order entered by the District Court in Baltimore that required Microsoft to distribute Sun's Java runtime environment (JRE) with the Microsoft Windows XP operating system and to halt "separate" distribution of the Microsoft virtual machine (Microsoft VM). The Court of Appeals decision came as Microsoft was taking the first of many steps to comply with the preliminary junction order.
