US-CERT is aware of a new Trojan known as 'Phatbot'. Only computers running Microsoft Windows operating system can be infected by 'Phatbot'. Phatbot uses several methods to infect a computer, such as unpatched vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows operating system or "backdoors" installed by other malicious code such as "Mydoom" and "Beagle".
US-CERT strongly encourages users to install and maintain anti-virus software and exercise caution when handling attachments.
The worm is detected by the latest McAfee VirusScan virus definitions (v4238 and later), available from the OIT Web site.
