Configuring Outlook 2003 to check OSU E-mail (POP)



To configure Outlook 2003 to check an OSU E-mail account:
  1. Startup Outlook. Select the Tools menu, and then choose E-mail Accounts.
  2. Select "Add a new e-mail account" and click Next.
  3. Select "POP3" and click Next.
  4. Fill in the fields as follows:

    • "Your Name:" - Your name as you would like it to appear on your outgoing messages.
    • "E-mail Address:" - Your OSU e-mail address: lastname.#@osu.edu
    • "User Name" - Your OSU Internet Username: typically lastname.# (all lowercase)
    • "Password" - Your OSU e-mail password. Enter this and check the box for "Remember Password" if you would like Outlook to save your password.
    • "Incoming Mail Server (POP3)" - pop.service.ohio-state.edu
    • "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)"*** - smtp.service.ohio-state.edu

      ***NOTE: If you do not connect to the internet through OSU, you will need to use your ISP's outgoing mail server. Resnet's SMTP server is smtp.resnet.ohio-state.edu. See the following page for details: http://oit.osu.edu/networking/openrelay/

  5. Click Next.
  6. Click Finish.
  7. To check your OSU E-mail, click on the Send/Receive button in the toolbar.
