Configuring Eudora for Windows to use IMAP
Note: Using IMAP with Eudora for Windows is known only to work on the latest available version of Eudora. The latest version number is 6.2.1.0 and is available from the OSU Site Licensed Software Page.
If you would like to set up Eudora for IMAP use, these instructions will step you through the New Account Wizard:
- Double click the Eudora desktop icon or click on Start -> Programs -> Eudora -> Eudora to launch the application and start the new account wizard. Once this is up, click Next to continue.
- Under "Account Settings," make sure there is a black dot by "create a brand new e-mail account" and click Next to continue.
- Under "Personal Information," by where it asks for your name, enter the name you would like to be in the From field of your e-mail messages (e.g., Jon Doe) and then click Next to continue.
- Under "Email Address," type in the e-mail address that you want to appear in the "From" line of messages you send (e.g., name.n@osu.edu), and then click Next to continue.
- Under "Login Name" type your login name, (i.e., your name.n), then click Next to continue.
- Under "Incoming Email Server" enter imap.service.ohio-state.edu, select IMAP, and then click Next to continue.
- Leave the "IMAP Location Prefix" field blank (empty) and click Next to continue.
- Under "Outgoing Email Server" enter smtp.service.ohio-state.edu and make sure there is NOT a check mark by "Allow Authentication" and then click Next to continue.
- Click Finish to complete this part of the setup. Now we need to configure the SSL part of the e-mail configuration.
- While still in Eudora, click on Tools -> Options.
- Under "Options" click on Checking Mail; then, under Secure Sockets When Receiving click on the down arrow and select Required, Alternate port.
- Click on OK and you are all configured and ready to send and receive secure e-mail.
