Carmen: Use the Equation Editor [Instructor]
The Equation Editor is a part of the HTML Editor which can be accessed from a number of different Carmen tools (e.g., Discussions, Content, etc.). When the HTML Editor is available for use, the
icon appears on the page. To use the Equation Editor, do the following:
- With the discussion post, course topic, etc. open in the HTML Editor, place the cursor where you want to insert an equation.
- Click the
icon. - The Equation Editor dialog box appears.
- Create your equation by clicking a button in the toolbar at the top of the dialog box. Each of the buttons opens a palette of related mathematical symbols you can select:

Squares associated with a symbol indicate areas where you must enter alphanumerical values (excluding special characters such as commas or quotation marks). - Click
. - Your equation displays in the HTML Editor dialog box.
Note: If a gray box appears instead of your equation, first click outside the box and then click on the box. The page should refresh and your equation should display. Remember to use the HTML view.
