Carmen: Import or Export Grades [Instructor]
Import Grades:
You can import grades to your Carmen course from a well-formatted CSV (comma-separated values) file. Each files must be separated by a comma and each row by a line break. The first row in the files defines the grade items to import and the remaining rows contain the actual values; for example:

To import the CSV file:
- Log into Carmen as an instructor or other role that allows you to work with grades.
- Access the Grades tool.
- From the main "Grades List" page, click
. - The "Grades: Import/Export" page appears.
- Select Import into Grades from CSV.
- Click
to select the CSV file to upload. - Choose one of the following options.
- Click
to check your file for proper formatting and any errors before you copy it to your gradebook. - Click
to bypass error checking and proceed with uploading the file.

Note: This process may take a while for large classes.

Export Grades:
In addition to importing grades, you also can export grades from your Carmen course to a CSV (comma-separated values) file. The first row of the exported file consists of header information for all the fields. The first field of the second and all successive rows will be each user's identifying key fields: StudentId and Username. The remaining data fields are dependent on the options you select.
To export grades to a CSV file:
- Log into Carmen as an instructor or other role that allows you to work with grades.
- Access the Grades tool.
- From the main "Grades List" page, click
. - The "Grades: Import/Export" page appears.
- Select Export to CSV from Grades.
- Choose which key field to export for each user: always choose Both.
- Choose the option for grade values to export for each user: 'Points' Grade, or 'Weighted' Grade. Avoid using Grade Scheme for Item, as it does not re-import.
- Choose what optional user detail fields to include: Last Name, First Name, or Email.
- Check the grade items to include from the list at the bottom of the page. It is best to always select Adjusted Final Grade to catch the final "#" that Carmen pastes to the end of every row.

Note: You also have the option of exporting grades for a single group of users (assuming you have your students divided into groups). To do this, select the desired group from the "Grades List" page and then complete Steps 3-10 above.
