Carmen: Correct a Quiz Grade [Instructor]

On occasion, it will become necessary to correct a quiz grade. Listed below are a few of these circumstances and their specific solutions:

If you change the point value of a question:

  1. To change the point value of question, click Edit Values button on the Layout/Questions tab on the Edit Quiz page and make whatever changes are needed.
  2. You can manually regrade the quiz by clicking Grade Quiz icon and then checking the box corresponding to each student's attempt.
  3. When finished, click Update button .

If you grade a quiz manually:

  1. To manually grade a quiz for one or more students, click Grade Quiz button on the Edit Quiz page, select Attempts that have been completed from the Restrict to drop-down menu, and then click the attempt link for the student in question.
  2. After scoring each student's attempt, you must click Recalculate button and then Save Results icon.
  3. When finished, check the box corresponding to the attempt(s) modified for each student and click Update button .

If you change a question's content or answer:

If this occurs after students have taken the quiz, completed attempts are not automatically updated. When viewing a student's particular attempt, Carmen warns "Note: This question is an old version as it was modified after the quiz was taken." To change which answers receive credit:

  1. Click Grade Quiz button on the Edit Quiz page and then select the Questions tab.
  2. Click the name link for the question to edit.
  3. Click Edit icon to the right of Last Updated corresponding to the correct version of the question (when only the correct answer is being changed, only one version will appear).
  4. The text of the question and the frequency response for each answer is displayed. For some question types, you will notice bold numbers (e.g., (1)) next to the answer options.
  5. Under Grading Type, you have two options:
    • You can choose Give to all attempts which results in the same score for all students, regardless of the answer.
    • You can choose Give to attempts with answer and select or enter the appropriate answer and assign a number of points. Note: When applicable, numbers in a drop-down menu correspond to the bold numbers next to a question's answers.
  6. When finished, click Save Results icon .

Notes:
In the case when an answer is changed (e.g., the answer originally marked correct is actually incorrect), Step 5 above (Give to attempts with answer) must be repeated to give the now incorrect answer 0 points.
