Carmen: Content Development Strategies [Instructor]
The table below describes some common content creation and upload strategies. Be aware however, you still must use Carmen's Manage Content tool to create your course structure (modules and topics).

| Content Creation Strategies | |
| Use Carmen's HTML Editor | If you want to enter content directly into Carmen or copy and paste information from an existing text file and then apply HTML formatting. This strategy also gives you access to the built-in Equation Editor which allows you to easily insert mathematical equations. |
| Create and upload HTML documents | If you want to create documents locally using another HTML editor such as Macromedia Dreamweaver, Microsoft FrontPage, etc. This strategy allows you to avoid working online for long periods of time which is helpful if you're using a dial-up Internet connection. |
| Create and upload non-HTML documents | If your content is plain text with no formatting beyond line breaks. You also may want to upload other file types if you need to provide content that cannot be easily rendered in HTML. Keep in mind, however, your students will need to download and open such files locally. |
| Copy content from another course | If your course is a re-offering of a previous course or if the content is similar to another instructor's course (in this case, you will need permission to copy files). |
| Use learning objects | If you have access to a Learning Object Repository. This is a central library where content, images, etc. can be stored and then copied. |
| Content Upload Strategies | |
| Use Manage Files tool | If you have created content files locally and want to upload them to Carmen. |
| Use WebDAV | If you have a large number of content files and need to access/edit them frequently. WebDAV allows you to use drag and drop to move the files back and forth from your local computer to Carmen. |
| Import content from another platform | If you have content from another learning platform such as Blackboard and WebCT. You will need to contact your site administrator for assistance in this case. |
