SP550 Phone Version Differences
Memory Buttons: One of the differences between versions of the SP550 phone provided by OIT Telecommunications and Networking is the way phone numbers can be stored into the memory buttons. Versions 8 and later require users to simply press the Store button to begin the storing process. Versions prior to 8 require that you hold the Store button for approximately six seconds.
Extensions
Another difference introduced in version 9 are behaviors with extensions. When you have more than one phone with the same phone number in separate areas of a building, this is referred to as having an extension(s). If you use one of the handsets, the "in use" light will activate on the other extensions indicating that the phone number is in use. This is only true for versions 9 and later. Earlier versions will NOT display the "in use" light.
To determine which version of the SP550 phone you have, look underneath the handset. A sticker should should read SP550 A# where "#" is the version.
