Mainframe: Configuring tn3270 on Mac OS

Note: Due to limitations of the software, users will be unable to connect to the OSU Mainframe using the tn3270 client for OS versions earlier than Mac OS X.

TN3270 is a 3270 emulator for the Mac OS. This software is needed to connect to the OSU Mainframe and access applications such as Marx and TSO.

This software is available on the OSU Site Licensed Software Downloads page.

Instructions for installing and configuring the Mac OS X client are listed below.

Mac OS X

After downloading the installer from the OSU SLS site, decode the tn3270x_316.hqx with Stuffit Expander if necessary. Double click the resulting "tn3270_X_3.1.6.dmg" file, which will mount the tn3270 disk on your Desktop. Create a folder on your hard drive where you would like to store the application. Open the "tn3270 X 3.16" disk and copy the contents to the folder you created. To connect to the Mainframe:

  1. Open the "tn3270 X" application from the folder you created
  2. In the "Host Name" field, enter ohstmvsb.us.ohio-state.edu
  3. In the "Window Title" enter a title, such as Mainframe
  4. Click the "Special" icon
  5. In the "Port number" field, enter 992
  6. Under "Security", select SSL and set the drop down menu to SSL/TLS Default.
  7. Click OK, then click Open Connection
  8. Go to the File menu and select Save Settings As...
  9. Give the settings file a name and save it in your tn3270 folder.
  10. To connect to the mainframe in the future, double click this settings file.
