OSU Wireless-Network: Setup for IBM Access Connections
IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads with IBM Access Connections needs to be configured to utilize the OSUWireless-Network. The following instructions pertain to the versions 3 and 4 of IBM Access Connection.
IBM Offers a software installer that will update your drivers automatically. It is suggested that you download this software and update your drivers to ensure the following instructions can be followed.
Update your IBM Access Connection Software and Drivers Automatically
NOTE: First, create an OSUWireless ID and PIN at the OIT Account Management site.
Configure IBM Access Connections version 4.11a on Your Laptop
- Open IBM Access Connection by clicking Start -> (All) Programs -> Access IBM -> IBM Access Connections.
NOTE: This application may be located inside a ThinkVantage folder. - Under the "Locations" menu, click Manage Profiles....
- Under the "Profile Action" menu, click Create....
- On the "Create New Profile" window:
- 1. Name of Location Profile = type a name for your profile (for example, osuwireless)
You may also choose a symbol for this connection from the pull down menu. - 2. Type of Network Connection = Wireless LAN (802.11)
- 3. Make certain your wireless network card is checked. Click Next
- 1. Name of Location Profile = type a name for your profile (for example, osuwireless)
- Enter wireless network configuration:
- 1. Nework Name (SSID): osuwireless
- 2. Connection type: Infastructure
- 3. Wireless mode: Auto
- 4. Wireless Security Type: Use IEEE 802.1x Authentication
Click Properties...- Access point authentication: WPA
- Data encryption: TKIP
- EAP type: PEAP
- Authentication protocol: MS-CHAP-V2
If you wish to store your username and PIN, click Enter User Credentials... - Check the Validate server certificate checkbox.
Certificate issuer: Equifax Secure Certificate Authority
Server name: ohio-state.edu
Select the Domain name must end in specified name radio button. - Click OK
- Click Next
- The Network security, Applications, Default printer, TCP/IP and DNS, VPN, and Browser checkboxs can be configured to your personal setup.
When finished, click Finished.
A popup box should appear asking whether you with to Apply this profile now. Click Yes or No.
If you did not store your username and password in step 5d, you will be prompted to enter your osuwireless username and password.
Configure IBM Access Connections version 3.81 on Your Laptop
- Open IBM Access Connection by clicking Start -> (All) Programs -> Access IBM -> IBM Access Connections.
- If this is the first time you have used Access Connection, press Next and continue with step 5; otherwise, add a new profile by clicking on Manage Location Profiles.
- Select New to add a new connection profile.
- On the "Choose Your Connection Type" page:
- Name of Location Profile = type a name for your profile (for example, osuwireless)
- Type of Network Connection = Wireless LAN (802.11)
- Press Next
- On the "Choose Your Wireless Adapter" page, make sure your wireless adapter is selected. Press Next.
- On the "Edit Your TCP/IP Settings" page, press Next.
- On the "Edit Your Advanced DNS Settings" page, press Next.
- On the "Edit Your Wireless Network Settings" page:
- Network Name (SSID) = osuwireless
- Wireless Security Type = Use IEEE 802.1x Authentication
- Press Next
- On the next "Edit Your Wireless Network Settings" Page:
- Access Point authentication: WPA
- Data Encryption = TKIP
- EAP Type = PEAP
- Make sure the Validate Server Certificate checkbox is checked.
- Select Equifax Secure Certificate Authority from the "Certificate Issuer" pull down menu.
- Authentication Protocol = MS-CHAP-V2
- Press the Enter user credentials button.
- Select Use saved user name and password.
- Enter your OSUWireless ID.
- Enter your OSUWireless PIN.
- Confirm your PIN.
- Press OK.
- Press Next.
- On the "Edit Your Internet Explorer Proxy Setting" page, press Next.
- On the "Edit Your Security Settings" page:
- Select Disable file and printer sharing.
- Select Protect my computer... (Windows Firewall).
- Select Disable Internet Connection Sharing.
- Press Next.
- On the "Printer Setup" page, choose whichever option you would like to handle your default printer. Press Next.
- On the "Program Setup" page, press Next
- On the "Save Your Location Profile" page, press Save
- On the Pop-up box "Profile created successfully", press OK
- At this time, the Access Connection will connect to the OSUWireless Network.
