OSU Wireless-Network: Setup for Aegis (PocketPC)



The following instructions are for setting up the Aegis Client for PPC 2002 and Windows Mobile 2003.

The OSU Wireless-Network team does not support the use of Windows CE.

NOTE: First, create an OSUWireless ID and PIN at the OIT Account Management site.

Before Installing:

  • Before installing the product, uninstall any previous versions present on the machine using the Add/Remove Programs dialog.
  • The software requires ActiveSync 3.0 or later.
  • Be sure that the date is set correctly on your device. If the date is wrong, the key will not activate the product.

Installing Aegis:

  1. Double-tap the downloaded file and follow installation instructions on the Software Downloads page for this product.
  2. The product must be unlocked before it is run. During product installation, a popup window will appear which asks for the License ID and License Key.
  3. To unlock the product, see the Aegis PPC Setup Guide.doc file included in the download.

Configuring Aegis:

  1. Ensure that wireless is enabled.
  2. Tap on the Aegis icon in the lower right corner.
  3. Tap on Client and then Configure.
  4. Add a new profile. Give it any name, such as osuwireless.
  5. In the identity field, type anonymous.
  6. In authentication type, select PEAP.
  7. Under Tunneled authentication:
    1. In the Identity field, type your OSUWireless ID
    2. In the password field type your OSUWireless PIN.
  8. In the Protocol field, select MSCHAPv2.
  9. Select the Server tab:
    1. Uncheck Do not validate server certificate.
    2. Select Equifax Secure Certificate Authority under "Certificate Server". If this is not an option, select Any trusted CA.
    3. In the "Server name must be" box, type ohio-state.edu and select Must contain domain name.
  10. Press OK.

Configuring the wireless network:

  1. Tap on the Wireless Network Utility.
  2. Select Configure from the drop-down menu.
  3. Tap on the osuwireless network to select and choose Move to Configured.
  4. Tap on osuwireless in the configured Networks section and choose Properties
  5. Select the Profile Info tab.
  6. Select osuwirless from the "Authentication profile" pull down menu.
  7. Select the WEP MGMT tab.
  8. Check the Provide encryption key dynamically checkbox.
  9. Select the WPA Settings tab:
    1. WPA Mode = WPA 802.1x
    2. Encryption = TKIP
  10. Tap OK.
  11. Tap OK.
  12. Close the Aegis Client screen.
Your device is ready to use the network.
