South Campus Gateway: Accessing the Internet in Apartments
Wired Internet access in the South Campus Gateway apartments uses a similar authentication window to the one used in campus residence halls.
The computer must be configured to obtain an IP address automatically.
- On a Windows XP machine, this setting can be found by going to the Start button, to Control Panel and Network Connections. Right-click on the network connection you're using and select "Properties". Double-click the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) entry to open the Properties window, and make sure that "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically are selected". Press OK until all windows are closed.
- On a Macintosh running OS X, go to the Apple menu to System Preferences. Click the Network icon. Under the Show menu, select "Built-in Ethernet" as the connection method. On the "TCP/IP" tab, make sure "Configure" is set to "Using DHCP". Click the Apply Now button to confirm the changes.
With the computer connected to the network data jack in the wall, open your web browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Firefox, Safari, etc). You will be redirected to an OSU authentication screen.
Enter your OSU Internet username (lastname.#) and password.
After logging in, you will see a welcome screen which says Welcome to the OSU network, lastname.#. At this point you should be redirected to your usual home page. You will stay connected for as long as you are actively using the network. There is a timeout after 15 minutes of no activity.
