OSU Wireless-Network: Tested and Recommended Devices

The following are tested and recommended devices as of 3/8/2006.

NOTE: Windows XP Service Pack 2 is the recommended minimum level for all Windows laptops. Mac OSX v10.3 is the recommended minimum level for all Apple laptops.

Make sure you have updated your wireless card's drivers prior to connecting to the OSU Wireless-Network.

Tested with Windows XP (service Pack 2 required):

  • Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN Adapter
  • Cisco Aironet 350 A/B/G wireless card
  • Cisco Wireless LAN MiniPCI Adapter (Aegis v2.2.7 client was required - client no longer available from OIT)
  • D-Link Air DWL-650 802.11b Wireless PC Card Adapter (D-Link Air Utility can be used for configuration if service pack 2 can not be installed)
  • D-Link DWL-G122 Wireless USB Adapter
  • D-Link DWL-G630 Wireless card
  • HP Tablet PC with Windows XP Tablet Edition
  • IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad all series
  • LAN-Express 802.11G WLAN Adapter (latest drivers are needed)
  • Linksys Model WPC54G version 2 Notebook Adapter
  • Linksys Wirless-G USB Network Adaptor WUSB54G
  • Linksys WPC11 Instant Wireless Network PC Card (Aegis v2.2.7 client was required - client no longer available from OIT)
  • Netgear WG111 Wireless USB Adapter
  • Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card (Aegis v2.2.7 client was required - client no longer available from OIT)
  • US Robotics 5411

Tested with Windows 2000:

  • D-Link DWL-G122 USB Adapter
  • Linksys Model WPC54G version 2 Notebook Adapter

Tested with Handhelds/Phones's:

Tested with Macintosh:

  • Mac OSX version 10.2 (Macintosh Aegis Client required)
  • Mac OSX version 10.3 and above with Apple Airport wireless adapter

Also supported but not tested:

  • Any device listed on the WI-FI Alliance listing for WPA Enterprise Compliance should work with Windows XP (service pack 2 required)
  • Any device listed on the WI-FI Alliance listing for WPA Enterprise and PEAP should work with Windows 2000
NOTE: The WI-FI Alliance listing search function may not work properly with Windows XP and Firefox browser.

Tested but NOT Recommended:

  • Belkin F5D6020 Wireless Network Card - Latest drivers (version 3) do not support WPA encryption. Thus, it will not work with the OSU Wireless-Network.
  • Gigafast Wireless Adapter WF729-AEX - Card will not connect to osuwireless with native drivers. (Listed as Marvell Libertas 802.11b/g Wireless 8335 XP in the Windows Device Manager.)
  • GigaFast Wireless USB Adapter WF748-UI - Provides poor reception causing connection to drop and reconnect frequently. If it is used, only install the driver, not the network utility, as it interferes with windows wireless network configuration.
  • Hewlett-Packard IPaq Handhelds with PocketPC Second Edition - With correct settings, the device seems to repeatedly attempt to authenticate.
  • Palm OS - Devices configured both natively or using the Aegis client do not support PEAP/MSCHAPv2, which are necessary components for use with the OSU Wireless-Network.

Special notes: Some PDA's with Windows 2003 Second Edition do not have any additional client imbedded. Some of these have been shown to work if WPA/PEAP/MSCHAPv2 is supported. As of this date, we are recommending that unless the PDA is specifically tested for connectivity, the use of the Aegis Client for PPC v2.1.4 is recommended.

If you have difficulties connecting, be sure to check out the General Troubleshooting article with common issues related to connecting to osuwireless.
