OSU Wireless-Network: WPA Not Available?
The OSU Wireless-Network uses Wifi Protected Access (WPA) for encryption. When trying to connect to the on-campus wireless network, you will need to ensure that your wireless device is WPA compatible.
If it seems that WPA is not an option when configuring your laptop to connect (i.e., only WEP is available, etc.), three steps should be followed:
- Check Windows updates / Apple software updates
Installing updates can often times solve problems, especially if you are using Windows XP and do not have service pack 2. - Check for driver updates
The latest driver for your wireless card may have an update which includes WPA compatibility. Check your wireless card manufacturer's website. - Try using a 3rd-party client
Some 3rd-party clients offer WPA compatibility, and may offer a solution for connecting to OSU Wireless-Network.
There is always the chance that the wireless card you have is simply too out-of-date and will not allow you to conect to OSU Wireless-Network. If this is the case, you will need to purchase a new wireless card. Visit OIT's Tested and Recommended Devices article for devices proven to work with the OSU Wireless-Network.
