OSU Wireless-Network: Dell Axim X50v

The Dell Axim X50v (520MHz CPU) requires the latest ROM version A05 update to work with the OSU Wireless Network. You can check which ROM version you have by clicking on Start ,Settings, Select System Tab, Click on System Information. The Information to the right of "ROM Version" should have A05 with some number in parenthesis to the right. If you see A01, A02, A03, or A04 you will need to update the ROM. The release date of the update is 8/18/05, so any device purchased prior to or near that date will most likely need updated.

NOTE: Installing a new ROM version requires a hard reset which ERASES all data and resets the unit back to factory defaults. You must back up all data and Dell recommends reinstalling all software after a hard reset.

Be sure to read the "Important Information" and "Installation Instructions" after cliking on the "ROM version A05" link above. Below is some additional important information.

  1. Use Internet Explorer, not Firefox or some other web browser to download and install the R106214.exe ROM update program.
The program utilizes the browser to install the update and does not work well with browsers other than IE.

  2. After running the update you must do a hard reset. This is done by holding down the power button while pressing the soft reset button with the stylus (small hole on the upper right hand side on the back of the Axim X50v).
At this point all data is erased. There is no way around this since the core ROM system is replaced.

  3. After performing the initalization steps configure the Odyssey client (Start ,Settings, Select Connections Tab, Click on Odyssey Client) according to the install instructions provided for the Odyssey Client (PPC).
Be sure you have a strong enough signal when attempting to confiure.
