Carmen: Data Import Process Report
The Carmen system imports updated data over night. This data includes all roster changes, all new student and faculty information, and course changes gathered from automated procedures. If a failure occurs in this update, it occurs somewhere in the middle of the process, and not all of the information may have been successfully entered into Carmen.
The 8help System Status Page will list the current status of the data feed in the Carmen/WebCT section. If there has been a failure, Carmen will be affected in the following ways:
- The course rosters may not reflect new add/drop requests, so students may not see their newly added course
- The new user information might not process, so new students will encounter the ERROR AUTHENTICATING STUDENT ID: XXXXXX
- The course requests may not create the requested dev, forum, or practice courses for an instructor
- Instructors may find their newly assigned courses are not showing up on the "My Home" page
- Merge requests may not complete, leaving the original courses unchanged
In all these cases, the problem is simply one of stale data. If you see these symptoms and a failure notice on the status page, then the problem will be corrected with the next update. If the problems are not resolved in a timely manner please check the 8help Page for other possible solutions and then submit a report to Carmen Support.
