Anti-Spam Service: How to see complete list of "blocked e-mail" senders
In general, the Office of Information Technology does not block e-mail from specific sources except to protect network services and resources in a perceived emergency situation. Examples would be an ongoing denial of service attack or a so-called "mail bomb" event.
In cases such as these, specific senders, hosts, domains, or ip address ranges may be temporarily blocked for the duration of the event. These blocks will be lifted as soon as the threat has passed.
Please note that e-mail users who use the "tag only" anti-spam option (which is the default if the user has not changed any of their anti-spam settings) automatically inherits rules from the "default" stream -- which is where the global blocks reside. If users change their personal anti-spam settings to enable their own private "lastname.#" stream, AND turn off the "inherit default rules" setting in their user preferences, then the default rules will no longer apply to them. For further information, please read the pertinent anti-SPAM articles in the 8help knowledge base (search for "anti-spam").
To see the complete list of senders who are currently blocked by the anti-spam service:
- Launch a web browser and open the Anti-Spam service using your OSU Internet Username and password.
- If you have not already done so, click on Enable Expert Interface.
- In the pull down box to the left of View this stream choose default.
- Click on the Rules link.
- Click on the Domains link.
You will see all the domains with restrictions
To limit the list to only those items with a specific domain, type in that domain name in the box to the right of Restrict listing to Domains containing:" and click on Go.
Reset your viewing stream to your OSU Internet Username so you can change your individual settings if you wish.
Note that e-mail virus scanning and discarding will always occur, regardless of user settings. This includes those who "opt out" of the anti-spam service.
OIT systems staff regularly review blocks and will remove or loosen those which are no longer associated with a threat.
