In Mac OS X, what is the Application menu?
The Application menu is the menu directly to the right of the Apple menu on the menu bar. The name of the menu is based on the name of the application the user is currently using. For example, when the user is using the Safari web browser the name of the menu is Safari, but if the user switches to the Address Book application to look up an address then the name of the will become Address Book.
Some of the items found under the Application menu include:
- About name of application - Basic information about the current version of the program. Sometimes registration information is visible here.
- Preferences - Place for changing the look and workings of most programs.
- Hide - Allows users to hide the application, or hide every other application except the frontmost one.
- Quit - Allows users to exit the program, closing all files opened by that program.
