OSU Wireless-Network: Saved Credentials on Shared Laptops (WinXP)
Windows XP's Wireless Zero Configuration automatically stores in the registry the username and password entered when connecting to a wireless network. In situations where a laptop is shared among multiple users, this is an undesirable feature.
A solution to this is to create a simple script that, when double-clicked, will remove the saved username and PIN for you.
- Click on Start -> (All) Programs -> Accessories -> Notepad.
- Copy the text posted here and paste it into Notepad:
- Click File -> Save to open the "Save As" dialog box.
- Select Desktop under the "Save in" pull down menu.
- In the "File name" field, type Clear OSU Wireless Credentials.cmd
NOTE: You can give this file any name as long as it ends with the.cmdextension. - Click Save.
- Close the open text document.
If your osuwireless username and password are currently saved within the Windows Registry, double-click on the file you created. This will remove them from the registry.
Once a user of the shared laptop is finished using the wireless network, they should disconnect from wireless and double-click the Clear OSU Wireless Credentials.cmd file. This will ensure that the next user that attempts to log onto osuwireless will be prompted to enter their username and password.
