Anti-Spam Turned on Automatically for Students



A decision was made with OIT and USG to turn on Anti-spam by default to all students. At the same time, a new, simplified, interface will be available, where users can pick between Off, Scan only with spam score in subject or header line, Scan only without the spam scores, Low, Medium, and High. Students will automatically be set at the Medium level on Monday, August 28, 2006.

Due to the varying nature and needs of e-mail, the anti-spam system was not automatically turned on for faculty and staff. Faculy and staff have the option of using the simplified interface and setting it to Medium protection, which will give them the same protection as the students' default setting.

The simplified interface will not have the trap, nor will it have the training links at the end of the e-mails. In order to turn those on, the expert interface must be enabled, which can be found at this link:
