OSU Wireless-Network: Certificates

The OSU Wireless network has been set up to utilize many security configurations to protect the network connectivity of students, faculty, and staff on campus. In addition to providing a WPA encrpyted network, the OSU Wireless authentication servers utilize a certificate signed by Equifax Secure Certificate Authority.

This certificate is a means for the server to authenticate itself to you, the user. OSU Wireless setup articles include instructions for validating the Equifax server certificate. This is to ensure that the authentication server to which you send your username and password is legit.

When Connecting to OSU Wireless:
If you are asked to accept a certificate that DOES NOT meet the following criteria:

  • Signed by The Ohio State University
  • Name ends in ohio-state.edu
DO NOT connect to that network, as it might be a maliciously-driven network designed to acquire information from you.
