OSU Wireless-Network: Cannot Connect After Upgrading from Mac OS X v10.2

After upgrading your Apple computer from OS 10.2.x, you may have difficulties connecting to OSU Wireless if you had previously connected using the 3rd-party client Aegis. After installing OS 10.3.x (or 10.4.x), you will want to remove all instances of Aegis of your machine.

Removing the Aegis

  1. First, you must stop the Aegis background process:
    • Open Activity Monitor under Applications -> Utilities.
    • Choose All Processes from the "Show" pull down menu.
    • Select the process svc8021x and click Quit Process.
    • Choose Force Quit at the dialog box. You will need to enter your administrative username and password for your computer.
  2. Navigate through your computer and remove the following files:
    • /Applications/AEGISClient
    • /System/Library/StartupItems/mdc8021x
    • /Library/Preferences/com.mtghouse.mdc8021x.plist
  3. Navigate through your computer and remove the following folders:
    • /System/Library/Extensions/mdc8021x.kext
    • /Documents/AEGISClient
    • /usr//local/AEGIS
The 'usr' folder is hidden so you may need to open Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal and type the following:
      cd /
      cd usr/local
      sudo rm -R AEGIS

You will need to enter your administrative password
By following the above steps, you will have removed AEGIS from your machine. You can try connecting to OSU Wireless after configuring your machine according to OSU Wireless Macintosh setup instructions.
