OSU Wireless-Network: Changing/Choosing Your Password

OSU Wireless-Network utilizes an alternative set of credentials than the OSU Internet username and password (lastname.#). Users must activate their username and password to be able to access the 'osuwireless' network.

Activating Your Username and Password

  1. Visit the OIT Account Management page.
  2. Click on the OSU Wireless Network tab.
  3. Click on the Activate account tab.
  4. Enter your OSU Internet Username and Password, along with an acceptable password for osuwireless. The osuwireless password must be different from your OSU Internet Username's password.
Once you have created your OSU Wireless-Network username and password, you will need to configure your device. See the OSU Wireless-Network Setup article for instructions on how to configure your device.

Changing Your Password

  1. Visit the OIT Account Management page.
  2. Click on the OSU Wireless Network tab.
  3. Click on the Change password tab.
  4. Enter your OSU Internet Username and Password, along with an acceptable password for osuwireless. The osuwireless password must be different from your OSU Internet Username's password.
This will change your password on the OSU Wireless-Network. However, if you use the Windows XP built-in utility OR if you have previously saved your password, you may need to manually change your password on your device.

Windows XP Users:
Windows XP's Wireless Zero Configuration automatically stored in the registry the username and password entered when you connected to osuwireless. This means that if you do not remove the saved username/password, you may be unsuccessful in connecting with your recently changed password.

To complete the change process in Windows XP automatically:
Prior to performing this procedure, OIT recommends you create a system restore point on your machine. Instructions for creating a system restore point can be found in this knowledge base article.
You can run a script by clicking the link below. This script will remove the saved username and password and log you off windows. Once you log back in and try to connect to osuwireless, you will be prompted to enter your username and new password.

Open this page in Internet Explorer, then click the link below. If you're using another browser, you can right-click on the file and choose "Save As..." and make sure to save the file with a .vbs extension - then double-click the downloaded file to continue.

Click here to automatically remove your saved username and password on Windows XP

  • When prompted to save or open, please choose open.
  • When prompted to run or don't run, please choose run.
  • You will be warned a few times about the change about to be made.
  • After the scrip is complete and once you log back in and try to connect to osuwireless, you will be prompted to enter your username and new password.

To complete the change process in Windows XP manually:

  1. Create a system restore point on your machine.
  2. Click on Start -> Run.
  3. Type cmd and click OK.
  4. At the command prompt, type the following:

    reg delete hkcu\software\microsoft\eapol\usereapinfo /f

    Press Enter.
This will remove the saved username and password from your registry.
  5. Log off or Restart Windows XP.
Once you log back in and try to connect to osuwireless, you will be prompted to enter your username and new password.

Mac OS X Users:
If you have previously saved your password, you will need to modify it so that it reflects your new osuwireless password.

  1. In the Finder, click on the Go menu and click Applications.
  2. Double-click Internet Connect.
  3. Click the 802.1X tab.
  4. Type your new osuwireless password in the "Password" field.
NOTE: If you do not have an 802.1X tab in step 3 above, you did not originally follow the OSU Wireless-Network: Setup for Mac OS X instructions on the OIT Help Desk site. Please do so at this time!

OSU Wireless account creation and password changes take effect immediately.
