We have a Mailing List Server Interface which allows web-based submissions of some simple listserv commands, plus it contains some help files.

NOTE: This information is on a secure server, so you will be required to log in using your OSU Internet username and password.

The class that I was teaching is over, how do I delete the entire list?


Make your request by sending email to 8help@osu.edu (include the listname and list password in the message and differentiate between deleting all subscribers versus deleting the list itself).


How can I change ownership of a mailing list?


List owners can be changed using the Mailing List Server Interface. Use the Add New Owner To List/ Remove Owner from List Buttons.

NOTE: This information is on a secure server, so you will be required to log in using your OSU Internet username and password.


I forgot the password to my mailing list, can you tell me what it is?


If you've forgotten your mailing list password, call the OIT Support Center at 614-688-HELP (4357), and an agent can look it up for you.


How do I change the password to my mailing list?


There are two ways to change your mailing list password. You can either use the Mailing List Server Interface and hit the "Change Password" button there, or send e-mail to:

listproc@lists.acs.ohio-state.edu

with no subject, and in the body of the message, put:

conf listname XXXXXXX password *******

where listname is the name of your list, the X's are the old password, and the *'s are the new password.


Can students have a mailing list?


Lists are available to students with a faculty sponsor, providing that the list fits the academic mission of the university (i.e., is for university purposes).


I'm only getting headings, but not the message?


Our version of Listproc uses MIME to code the message digest and it seems that your email program can't process the MIME encoded message correctly. Try receiving the messages without MIME encoding by sending email to: listproc@lists.acs.ohio-state.edu with no subject. In the body type: set listname mail digest-nomime (where listname is the name of your list).


Is the password to my mailing list case sensitive?


The list password is case sensitive, the list name is not.


I am the owner of a mailing list, why am I not receiving any messages?


Although you are the owner of your mailing list, you must also subscribe to the list to receive messages.


How can I get the list of all of the mailing lists that are available?


Lists on the OSU system are hidden by default and cannot be found by public query.

To see which lists have been made visible to the public (as well as lists which you already own or subscribe to), send e-mail to listproc@lists.acs.ohio-state.edu with no subject, and in the body of the message put:

lists


What is the e-mail address of a mailing list on the OSU Listprocessor?


The e-mail address of mailing lists on the OSU Listprocessor is listname@lists.acs.ohio-state.edu .


What is the maximum attachment size for a message to a listserve?

The limit is 1 Meg. Keep in mind when files are encoded for inclusion in messages they increase in size. Thus, a 750K file can expand to 1 meg. when sending as an attachment.
