Multiple PPP configurations for MacOS 8, 8.1, 8.5
Multiple PPP configurations allow you to switch between different Internet service providers or connection locations, so that you don't have to remember all of the necessary information to log on. The examples below use the HomeNet dial-in information as an example.
- Configure the default set by filling in the username (name.n), password, and phone number (722-9800.)
- Go to the File menu and choose Configurations. If it asks you to save changes to the set, say Yes.
- In most cases, there will only be one set. It will be called "Default". Highlight it, then click the Rename button.
- Give the set a meaningful name (such as Short Term) and click the OK button.
- Next, highlight the Short Term connection and click the Duplicate button.
- A dialog box will open and ask you to name it. Name this Long Term and click OK.
- Highlight Long Term and hit the Make Active button (or hit return.) When you first open the new set, it should look exactly like the set it was duplicated from. Change the phone number to match the long term phone number (722-9900.)
- Go back to the File menu and choose Configurations. It will ask you if you want to save the changes. Click Yes.
- From this dialog box it is now possible to switch between the Long Term and Short Term numbers without changing the number each time.
