Cluster and Organizational Accounts
OIT offers two types of accounts for use by either OSU departments or officially sanctioned groups and OSU organizations that are furthering the academic mission of the Ohio State University (see the IT policies page).
The first is an organizational account, which is used by an organization or department to receive email that is meant for a group or entity rather than an individual. This account cannot be shared; it may be accessed only by one designated person, who may use the username and password. If the designated user needs to be changed, either the current user or the faculty or staff sponsor of the account must notify OIT via e-mail at 8help@osu.edu.
To apply for a organizational account, the faculty/staff advisor of the organization can fill out our online application here.
The second type of account is a cluster account, which is actually a central mailbox that is accessed by a designated number of people. Each person on the cluster must have their own username and password. If a change needs to be made to a cluster, the owner of the cluster needs to inform OIT via e-mail at 8help@osu.edu.
To apply for a cluster account, the prospective account owner can fill out our online application here.
