Configuring Eudora Pro on Windows to use OSU's Directory Services (LDAP)
To configure Eudora Pro 4 or later to use OSU's Directory Services (LDAP) for directory information:
- Startup Eudora and select the "Tools" menu and then "Directory Services."
- In the window that comes up, there will be a listing of Protocols in the upper right. Select "LDAP" and click the New Database button.
- In the window that comes up, give the LDAP listing a name, such as "OSU Directory Services". For the host name, enter: directory.service.ohio-state.edu
- Click the Search Options tab and in the "Search Base" field, enter: ou=People, dc=osu, dc=edu
- Click OK and in the Databases window at the lower right, a listing for "OSU Directory Services" will show up. If you gave the listing a different name in step 3, then that will be the name that shows up.
- To use the server to do a directory lookup, select the Tools menu, then Directory Services. Place a check in the box next to the "OSU Directory Services" in the Databases window. Then, in the "Query" field at the upper left of the window, type the name of the person you want to find.
NOTE: With the previous Whois directory, you needed to enter a period between the first and last names when doing a query (i.e. John.Smith). This is not necessary with the new server. You can use a space instead (i.e. John Smith). - Click the Start button and your query will run with the results being displayed below the "Query" field. Click on a name in the list to see the information for that person.
