Configuring dial-up DNS identity settings for Windows 2000
When configuring HomeNet with Windows 9x, it is necessary to put the OSU Internet Username and acs.ohio-state.edu in the "host" and "domain" boxes, respectively, in the DNS settings tab of TCP/IP properties in the Network Control Panel.
In Windows 2000, these settings do not appear in the DNS settings, but they are still crucial. They appear in the Network Identification settings under system properties. Remember, you MUST be logged in.
- Right-click the "My Computer" icon. Click Properties.
- Go to the "Network Identification" tab.
- Hit the Properties button.
- Under "Computer Name" enter your OSU Internet Username (lastname.#)
- Hit the More button.
- Under "Primary DNS suffix for this computer:" enter acs.ohio-state.edu.
- Push OK buttons until you're out of all settings windows.
