Activating Your OSU Internet Username
Before you can begin using OIT Internet services, you must activate your OSU Internet Username (also referred to as your "lastname.#") and set a password. Incoming students are sent information, prior to orientation, that describes how to do this.
Who is eligible: Individuals currently enrolled at or employed by the university, as well as (during designated times) those incoming students who have been admitted to The Ohio State University.
How to activate: Go to the OSU Account Management page and click on the OSU Internet Username tab. Even if you prefer to use an independent Internet Service Provider, it is important that you activate your OSU Internet Username, as it is required in order to schedule for classes, view grades online, and access financial aid information, and many other online services. If you would prefer to read your e-mail through another account, you can request to have your lastname.#@osu.edu e-mail forwarded either as part of your OSU Internet Username activation or later on the OSU Account Management page.
After a successful activation, your username and e-mail address will be displayed in green text, along with some information about when the account can be used. For MOST services (including e-mail, secure web pages, logging onto an OIT lab computer, and ResNet) it should be available for use after 30 minutes. OSU Registrar services, such as scheduling and viewing grades should be accessible immediately.
