Configuring Entourage 2001 to check Email
The following are instructions for setting up Entourage 2001 (Office 2001 Macintosh) for e-mail.
(This assumes you are setting it up for the first time. If you need to edit an existing account, startup Entourage, go to the "Tools" menu and select "Accounts.")
- Startup Entourage. It will ask you if you would like to set it as the default email program. Choose yes if you do.
- The Setup Assistant will launch and ask you to enter your first and last name. Do so, then click the right arrow.
- Enter your Home Address/Phone number, then click the right arrow.
- Enter your Work Address/Phone number, then click the right arrow.
- If you would like to import any information into Entourage, choose that option, then click the right arrow. We'll assume Entourage imports nothing.
- Enter your First and Last name as you would like it to appear in the "From" line of your email messages, then click the right arrow.
- Choose "I already have an email address that I'd like to use," then enter your OSU email address and click the right arrow.
- Set the following options:
My Incoming mail server is a "POP" server
Incoming mail server: pop.service.ohio-state.edu
Outgoing mail server***: smtp.service.ohio-state.edu (or smtp.resnet.ohio-state.edu if you connect from the dorms)
Then click the right arrow.
***NOTE: If you do not connect to the internet through OSU, you will need to use your ISP's outgoing mail server. See the following page for details: http://oit.osu.edu/networking/openrelay/ - Enter your username for "Account ID" (lastname.# ex: smith.9999), enter your password and click "Save Password" if you would like Entourage to save it, then click the right arrow.
- Name your acount (ex: John Smith's OSU email), then click "Finish."
