Configuring Yahoo Mail to directly check your OSU Email
Yahoo Mail has a feature which can be configured to check your OSU email and download it directly into your Yahoo account. Here are the instructions for setting this up:
- Log into your Yahoo account.
- Click on "Options" at the top right
- Under Management, select "Mail Addresses".
- Click on the "Add" button.
- Type a name for the account, for example: "OSU Mail", then click the "Continue" button.
- For "Mail Server", type : pop.service.ohio-state.edu
- For "Username", type your OSU Internet username. For example: smith.9999
- For "Password", enter the password for your OSU account.
- Select a color that will be used to identify mail from this account in your Yahoo Inbox, then click the 'Setup Mail Server' button.
- Select the newly created account from the list and hit the "Edit" button.
- Uncheck the option for "Leave mail on POP Server", as leaving this on will allow messages to accumulate in your OSU account and exceed its capacity.
- Click the "Save Changes" button.
To stop this service, go back to the "Mail Options" and select "Mail Accounts", then highlight your OSU account in the list and click the Delete button.
PLEASE NOTE: If your have Yahoo's Bulk Mail filter turned on, it may filter your OSU email as junk mail. To prevent this from happening, you can setup a filter to direct your OSU email to your Inbox. To set this up, do the following:
- Log into your Yahoo account
- Click on "Mail Options" toward the top right
- Click on "Filters," then "Add."
- Enter the following, then click Add Filter:
- Filter Name: OSU Email
- To/Cc: Header Contains: (your OSU Username - lastname.#)
- Move message to: Inbox (or where ever you like)
