Finding the Disk Location of an Open Folder: Mac System 8.0 and later

Beginning with System 8.0, it is possible to find where an open folder is being stored on the disk drive. To do so, hold down the Command ("Apple") key (the key immediately to the left of the space bar), and then click on the title bar at the top of the directory window. This will reveal a pop-up menu showing a hierarchical list of folders that contain the current folder.

Note: This procedure will also work with directory windows in Mac OS X. In addition it's possible for users to do searches in Mac OS X by typing the name of the file or folder they're searching for into the search field that appears at the top of directory windows in Mac OS X. If there is no search field in the upper left-hand corner of the window, click on the white oval button in the upper left-hand corner of the directory window. This will cause the toolbar to appear and reveal the search field.
