Do eMacs Have 5 USB Ports?
There have been some reports that the new education-only eMacs have 5 USB ports built into them. The report is somewhat misleading, since the machine itself has 3 built-in USB ports, along with 2 unpowered USB ports on the keyboard. They keyboard will use one of the three ports on the computer and the mouse will take one of the ports on the keyboard; so, there are actually 2 powered ports on the computer and 1 unpowered port on the keyboard available to the user.
The G4 and G5 iMacs have the same sort of port setup; that is, 3 ports on the back of the computer and 2 on the keyboard. One important difference is that on the newer iMacs is that the ports on the back are USB 2.0, whereas the ports on the keyboard are USB 1.1, so high-speed devices need to be plugged into the back of the computer.
