Carmen: File Upload Times Out [Instructor]
The Carmen Content Manager allows users to uplaod files while they build their content. Changes in the method by which these uploads are handled, however, makes one vulnerable to a standard browser timeout. This timeout will occur in less than three minutes, so any file of sufficient size will time out instead of uploading successfully.
This issue will affect users who are:
- Instructors with significantly large files
- Instructors on dial-up Internet service, or other low-bandwidth providers, and
- Instructors trying to upload files during peak network traffic
For Instructors trying to upload a large number of files, this behavior can be seriously frustrating. There is a workaround to this issue, and a moment's attention is all that is required to circumvent the timeout problem.
The Manage Content area is what is affected by this timeout bug. Do not use this area for files of any significant size:
Instead, use the File Manager, that can be found from the "Edit Course" menu on the NavBar. The File Manager tool will open a window that is impervious to standard timeouts, and will work in all reasonable circumstances. You can access the File Manager from here:
