Digital TV Transition to occur on Feb. 2009
Starting on Feb. 18, 2009 all broadcast TV signals will be digital, requiring a TV with a digital tuner. All high definition TV's (HDTV) and most recent large screen TV's have digital tuners. All TV's sold after March 1, 2007 have digital tuners.
If you have cable or satellite service you are not affected by this transition.
If you have a TV, or computer with TV tuner that only has an analog tuner, you will need a digital to analog signal converter to receive digital TV signals.
To assist with the cost of conversion from analog to digital TV the government created a
coupon program worth $40 to purchase a converter box. Each household may receive up to 2 coupons. A web site is available (www.dtv2009.gov) to
apply for the coupon and answer
questions.
