- What is BuckeyePass?
- See this article for a description of the BuckeyePass two-factor authentication system.
- What will these be used for?
- BuckeyePass authentication could be used with any resource that requires a username and password. In practice, the intention is to use it to improve security when accessing highly sensitive data.
- When will use of the BuckeyePass be mandatory?
- This will depend on the specific application for which you need to use it. However, as this is a security measure, we encourage all users to take all necessary steps to be ready as soon as possible.
- I lost or forgot the activation password I chose when I requested my token.
- This must be bypassed by administrators. Please inform the staff member from whom you physically receive your token that you have lost this password, so that they can correct this problem.
- The token has a USB plug on one end. Do I plug it into a USB port on my computer?
- No, this functionality is not enabled in OSU's implementation of the BuckeyePass tokens, and there are currently no plans to add it.
- I requested a BuckeyePass and haven't heard back yet. Why not?
- Assigning a BuckeyePass to you is a process done by hand by OIT staff. In this initial rollout period, we are sometimes receiving dozens of requests a day. Please be patient; if you have signed up for a BuckeyePass training class, your token will be approved before the class begins.
- Help! I forgot my BuckeyePass PIN (but I HAVE set up the Q&A).
- If you have forgotten your BuckeyePass PIN, but HAVE previously gone through setting up the Q&A authentication, then you can use the Q&A to reset your PIN from the BuckeyePass website. See Resetting BuckeyePass PINs with Q&A for instructions.
- Help! I forgot my BuckeyePass PIN (and did NOT set up the Q&A).
- If you have forgotten your BuckeyePass PIN and did NOT previously setup the Q&A authentication (or are unable to answer 3/5 of the Q&A questions correctly), then unfortunately you will need to come into the IT Service Desk in person to verify your identity. You will need to bring two forms of ID, at least one with a photo. See this page for walk-in location and hours.
