Cisco VPN Connection Fails -- "Connection Terminated Locally by the Client"
In Windows Vista, attempts to connect to the Cisco VPN may fail with the following error message (Error 442):
To work around this problem:
- In Network Connections, right-click the Cisco VPN Adapter icon, which should be disabled, and enable it.
- Right-click the Cisco Systems VPN Adapter icon again, and this time select "Diagnose."
- Select "Reset the network adapter..." There will be a delay, probably around a minute.
- Windows will prompt you, saying the IP configuration is still invalid; ignore this and click Cancel.
- In Network Connections, right-click your VPN Virtual Adapter, and click Disable. Close the Network Connections window.
- In the Start menu, right-click on the Command Prompt, and select "Run as Administrator."
- Enter the following line:
reg add HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters /v ArpRetryCount /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
