Moving Saved OSU Webmail Messages Into Buckeye Mail
Although it doesn't happen automatically when you sign-up, it is possible to move saved messages from OSU Webmail to Buckeye Mail. Only messages in the Inbox can be moved using this method, so if you have messages saved in other folders, the first thing you will need to do is log in to OSU Webmail and move those messages back in to the Inbox. Once you have all the messages you want to copy over in the Inbox, log in to Buckeye Mail Web Access using a supported browser, and follow the steps below:
If the graphics in your Navigation Bar are Blue:
- Log into buckeyemail.osu.edu
- Load the following link: https://bl2prd0102.outlook.com/ecp/PersonalSettings/NewPopSubscription.aspx
- In the resulting window, enter:
- Display Name: Webmail Account (or something similar)
- E-mail address: lastname.#@osu.edu
- User name: lastname.#
- Password: Your OSU Internet Username Password
- Incoming server: pop.service.ohio-state.edu
- Authentication: Basic
- Encription: None
- Port: 110
- Click Save at the bottom right.
- Verify the account has been added by going to the following in your Buckeye Mail account: Options -> Account -> Other Accounts.
- Allow a few minutes for the system to complete it's next scheduled check of subscribed accounts. Your imported messages will appear in your Inbox, with the original date and sender information still intact.
If the graphics in your Navigation Bar are Yellow:
- Near the top-right of the page, click Options.
- On the Options page that appears, select "Account" from the left-hand menu.
NOTE: If you don't see "Account" as the first item on the left, make sure you're using a supported browser - including the correct version!.
- Under "Connected Accounts", click New .
- For E-mail address: enter: lastname.#@pop.service.ohio-state.edu
- For Password: enter the password for your OSU Internet Username (the same thing used for BuckeyeLink, Carmen, OSU Webmail, and other online services.
- Click Next
- You'll see a confirmation notice that the accounts are now connected. Click Finish.
- Return to your Inbox using the My Mail link at the very top-right.
- Allow a few minutes for the system to complete it's next scheduled check of subscribed accounts. Your imported messages will appear in your Inbox, with the original date and sender information still intact.
WARNING ON REPYLING TO IMPORTED MESSAGES: When you reply to a message imported through this process, Buckeye Mail may automatically set your "From" address to lastname.#@pop.service.ohio-state.edu -- which is NOT a valid e-mail address. To ensure this doesn't happen, when replying to an imported message:
- In the new/compose message window, click "Options"
- Check the "Show From" box
- Click OK
- Click the pull-down arrow next to the newly visible "From" header.
- Make sure your Buckeye Mail address is selected.
