Configuring Gmail To Directly Check Your OSU Webmail
You can check your OSU mail in Gmail without forwarding to GMail service. This is useful for people who already have e-mail in their OSU accounts and want to import it to Gmail:
- Log into Gmail.
- Click on Settings in the top-right corner.
- Click the "Accounts" tab in the main window.
- Look for the 2nd area, "Get mail from other accounts", and click on Add a mail account you own.
- In the window that pops up, for Email address add your OSU e-mail address: lastname.#@osu.edu
- Click Next Step.
- In the next screen, put in your Password for your OSU Internet username. For POP Server enter: pop.service.ohio-state.edu
- Leave the Port at 110, you can click "Leave a copy of retrieved messages on the server." if you are still going to use Webmail. Make sure to leave "Always use a secure connection (SSL)" unchecked. The last two options are based on your preference for OSU e-mail.
- Click Add Account.
- Gmail will then ask "Would you also like to be able to send mail as lastname.#@osu.edu?" You may click Yes or No based on your own preferences.
- Click on Next Step.
- If you clicked No on Step 10, you are done. If you clicked Yes on Step 10, then continue on:
- It will then ask you the display Name you would like to use to send e-mail. Enter your name as you want it to appear in the "From" field of outgoing messages, and click Next Step.
- Gmail will ask to send a verification e-mail to your OSU address to ensure you do own it.
- Check your OSU e-mail to get the message, and follow the instructions in the e-mail sent.
Please note that only messages in the OSU Webmail Inbox will be imported to Gmail.
