Moving OSU Webmail Contacts Into Buckeye Mail

Unfortunately, there's no built-in or automatic way to move your Address Book/Contacts from OSU Webmail to Buckeye Mail. Although it's not possible to import contacts directly into Buckeye Mail on the web, if you have access to a computer with Microsoft Outlook, it IS possible to use that to import your contacts.

The first step is to setup Outlook 2007 to automatically sync with your Buckeye Mail account. See Configuring Outlook 2007 To Sync With Buckeye Mail for instructions on how to do so.

After doing that, the next step is to export your contacts from Webmail:

  1. Log on to OSU Webmail by going to webmail.osu.edu and clicking the "Webmail" link on the right side of the page.
  2. Go to the "Address Book" tab.
  3. Click the "Import/Export" button located just below the tabs.
  4. A new window will appear. Under "Export", select "Microsoft Outlook CSV" from the Export Format pull-down menu, then click the Export button.
  5. Save the resulting file (likely named something like iabcsvus.csv by default) somewhere you can easily find it later.

Now you're ready to import the contacts into Outlook:

  1. Open Outlook 2007 (that you've already setup to sync with Buckeye Mail).
  2. Go to the File pull-down menu and choose Import and Export.
  3. In the Import and Export Wizard window that appears, select "Import from another program or file" and click Next .
  4. For the file type, select "Comma Separated Values (Windows)" and click Next.
  5. For "Import a File", click Browse and locate the CSV file you saved from Webmail above. Select it, then click Next.
  6. For "Select destination folder", choose "Contacts" and click Next.
  7. Click Finish.

Your contacts should now be imported into Outlook successfully - and, thanks to setting it up to sync automatically with Buckeye Mail, should automatically appear in Buckeye Mail on the web as well. Once you've verified that your contacts now appear on Buckeye Mail through the web, you no longer need to use Outlook.
