Configuring Outlook 2003 To Check Buckeye Mail
NOTE: You must access Buckeye Mail at least once on the web to complete the account setup before you can use a client.
Full syncing of mail, contacts, and calenders (Exchange Sync) for Buckeye Mail is not supported in versions of Outlook before Outlook 2007. However, it is possible to use Outlook 2003 to check your Buckeye Mail account using POP or IMAP.
- Open Outlook 2003. Go to the Tools pull-down menu and choose E-mail Accounts.
- Select "Add a new e-mail account" and click Next.
- Select POP3 or IMAP (What's the difference?) then click Next or Continue. You might want to use IMAP because it supports more features.
- On the "Internet E-mail Settings" page, fill out:
Your Name: your name as you want it to appear on outgoing mail E-mail Address: lastname.#@buckeyemail.osu.edu User Name: lastname.#@buckeyemail.osu.edu Password: your Buckeye Mail password Incoming mail server (POP3 or IMAP): outlook.com Outgoing mail server (SMTP): pod51000.outlook.com
- Click More Settings...
- On the "Outgoing Server" tab, check "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication". Make sure "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" is selected.
- On the "Advanced" tab, check "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)" under BOTH the Incoming server AND the Outgoing server.
- Click OK.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
