Enabling and Disabling cookies



A cookie is a string of information that a web server sends to your computer to store information, such as a verification that you've successfully logged in to a web site. While cookies are important for logging in to many pages, they can also be used to keep site statistics and track web activity.

If You Want to Control Which Cookies You Accept: You can order your browser to accept all cookies or to alert you every time a cookie is offered. Then you can decide whether to accept one or not.

If you're using Internet Explorer 6.0 or 7.0:
  1. Choose Tools, then
  2. Internet Options.
  3. Click the "Privacy" tab,
  4. Default setting is medium. Move the slider to determine which setting you prefer.
  5. You can also click on "Advanced" for specialized cookie treatment.
If you're using Firefox 2.0:
  1. Choose Tools, then
  2. Internet Options.
  3. Click the "Privacy" tab,
  4. Check or uncheck "Accept cookies from sites".
  5. You can also click on "Exceptions" for specialized cookie treatment.
If you're using Internet Explorer 5.0:
  1. Choose Tools, then
  2. Internet Options.
  3. Click the "Security" tab,
  4. Click "Internet", then "Custom Level".
  5. Scroll down to "Cookies" and choose one of the two options.
If you're using Internet Explorer 4.0:
  1. Choose View, then
  2. Internet Options.
  3. Click the "Advanced" tab,
  4. Scroll down to the yellow exclamation icon under "Security" and choose one of the three options to regulate your use of cookies.
If you're using Internet Explorer 3.0
  1. Go to View, then
  2. Options.
  3. Click the "Advanced" tab.
  4. Click on the button that says "Warn Before Accepting "Cookies.""
If you're using Safari:
  1. Go to the Safari pull down menu.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Go to the "Security" tab.
  4. Under "Accept Cookies", set it to accept, reject, or selectively accept cookies.
If you're using Netscape 9:
On your Task Bar, click:
  1. Tools, then
  2. Options, then
  3. click on "Privacy".
  4. Under "Cookies", set the cookie acceptance policy to the desired level.
If you're using Netscape 8:
On your Task Bar, click:
  1. Tools, then
  2. Options, then
  3. click on "Site Controls".
  4. Under "Master Settings", click on "Im Not Sure"
  5. on the right, set the cookie acceptance policy to the desired level.
If you're using Netscape 6.x or 7.x:
On your Task Bar, click:
  1. Edit, then
  2. Preferences, then
  3. click on "Privacy & Security".
  4. click on "Cookies"
  5. on the right, set the cookie acceptance policy to the desired level.
If you're using Netscape Communicator 4.0:
On your Task Bar, click:
  1. Edit, then
  2. Preferences, then
  3. click on "Advanced".
  4. Set your options in the box labeled "Cookies".
If you're using AOL 8.0
  1. Go to keyword: PREFERENCES.
  2. From the organization column, click "Internet Properties (www)".
  3. In the AOL Internet Properties window, click on the "Privacy tab".
  4. Make sure the slider is set to the "Accept all cookies" option.
  5. Click OK.
