Details
OIT Cellular Service features Sprint as its service provider. OIT offers numerous cellular phones and 3 plans to OSU customers. OSU faculty, staff, and students are eligible for 2 year contracts at discounted rates for either personal or university business use. Ordering
To order cellular service, you can either place your order online or order through an OIT Cellular Specialist located at 025 Central Classroom Building by filling out a Personal Service Agreement Form.
Note: After ordering cellular service, you have only 10 days to change your phone or cancel service without charge.
Canceling
To cancel your OIT Cellular Service, please submit your request in writing to units@osu.edu indicating that you wish to discontinue your cellular service. Please include your SSN for verification as well as your cellular number.
Note: If you cancel your cellular service before your contract has ended, a $150 Early Termination Fee will be applied to your account and appear on your final bill.
Porting In
If you already have cellular service with a different vendor (i.e., not Sprint), you have the option of porting your number to OIT Cellular. Simply fill out the Personal Service Agreement form and indicate your existing phone number, current provider, and write "PORT" on the form (or add to the comments on online orders). OIT will require a copy of the current provider's billing statement to process this request.
Porting Out
If you wish to keep your existing cellular number but switch to a different vendor (other than Sprint), you must first transfer out directly to the vendor, as OIT Cellular service is provided by Sprint.
NOTE: Do not begin to port your number without first working with OIT - Telecom & Networking to transfer out. If you begin your port without OIT assistance, you will end up having to cancel the port and begin the transfer out process, thus delaying the porting of your number.
Transferring In
If you already have cellular service with Sprint, you may transfer your number into OIT Cellular Service. Simply go to our website and fill out the Online Form. (If you get a message stating that the "Information entered could not be found in our database", you must first Set Up Your UNITS Acccount.) At the end of the ordering process, enter in the "additional comments" field that this is a transfer from Sprint, indicating your current 10-digit phone number.
If you encounter problems with ordering online, you may fill out a Personal Service Agreement form and indicate your existing phone number, current provider, and write "Transfer In" on the form. Upon completion, you may either fax it to the OIT Cellular area (247-5053) or return it to 025 Central Classroom Building.
Transferring Out
If you are graduating or leaving the university for any other reason, or if you wish to use a provider not available through OIT, you must first transfer your number from OIT directly to Sprint. To do this simply fill out either the Sprint transfer form (complete the acceptance of account section only) and return it to the Cellular area (you may also fax the form to 247-5053). Administrative customers must also submit an internal order from their department authorizing the transfer. All information MUST be legible and complete. Failure to do so will delay your request.
A cellular representative will email your account number, new plan and rate to you once your transfer is complete. Once you have received this account number you may call Sprint at 1-888-211-4727 to change your calling plan or contact another vendor and have them assist you in porting your old cellular number.
Contract Renewal
Renewing your OIT Cellular contract makes you eligible for a new plan and phone equipment. If you would like to renew your 2 year contract, simply fill out the Personal Service Agreement form and indicate your existing phone number and write "RENEWAL" on the form (or add to the comments on online orders).
- Sprint: After 18 months of your agreement, you may renew your agreement and upgrade your cellular phone.
Plan or Number Changes
You can change your OIT Cellular plan at any point during a contract period. Simply submit the request in writing to UNITS and state your number and which plan you choose.
Note: You may change your plan once per 2 year contract without charge. All subsequent plan changes will incur a $35 fee. Changing your phone number will also incur a $35 charge.
