Configuring Netscape 7 to check OSU Email
To setup Netscape 7 to check your OSU email, do the following:
- Start Netscape, go to the "Window" menu and select "Mail & Newsgroups."
- Go to the "Edit" menu and select "Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings."
- Configure the outgoing mail server:
- Click on "Outgoing Mail (SMTP)."
The server name should be set to smtp.service.ohio-state.edu *** ***Note: If you connect to the Internet from an OSU Residence Hall, use smtp.resnet.ohio-state.edu. If you connect using an Internet service provider other than The Ohio State University, you will need to use your ISP's outgoing mail server. See this page for details.
- Click on "Outgoing Mail (SMTP)."
- Configure an e-mail account:
- If there is already an account setup that you would like to update, do the following, otherwise, skip to Adding a new account below:
- Click on the existing account and make sure the following information is entered:
- Account Name: name.#@osu.edu (Where name.# is your OSU Internet username)
- Your Name: (your first and last name)
- Email Address: name.#@osu.edu
Adding a new account:- Click the "Add Account" button.
- Select "Email Account," then click Next.
- Enter the following and click Next:
Your Name: (your first and last name)
Email Address: name.#@osu.edu - Select "POP" for type of mail server and then enter the following address and click Next: pop.service.ohio-state.edu
- Make sure your username is entered correctly and in all lowercase, then click Next twice.
- Then click "Finish" and OK.
